Jordan Peterson's Thoughts on Quitting Addiction
Dov writes about this video: This sums up the 12-Step program and explains why 11 and 1/2 of the 12 steps do not refer to alcohol/lust (ie, the drug) at all. It's only mentioned in the first half of the first step and and the drug is never again dealt with after that. Because it doesn't need to be, once a person has come to the point that they need to surrender it because they have come to see what powerlessness means (the inability to successfully use the drug, even for Teshuva) and what unmanageability means (I can't stand Living, when I'm sober). Once a person experiences those two aspects, there's little need to 'work on' quitting. Instead, there's tons and tons of work to be done on building a realistic and useful lifestyle.
